WTF is ASMR? — Rode Mic Unboxing

Are you a fan of ASMR, or not so much? For me, it highly depends on what I’m listening to. Some sounds under the mic make me cringe with anxiety and want to throw-up, while others put me into a complete state of tranquility. ⁣

Anyway, I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’m excited to do some voiceovers with my new Rode Mic (whether you like it or not). Lol. Don’t worry though, I’m not going to be continuously whispering or tapping (not my thing). I just want my audio to sound as crisp as my cereal tastes . . .⁣

Before I get into the unboxing, some of you may be thinking, WHAT THE FUCK is ASMR? Description provided below.

WTF is ASMR?

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response.

To be more specific, ASMR usually focuses on certain sounds within various types of content, and basically amplifies those sounds, which will often make the listener experience a tingling or static-like sensation.

In my experience, it can bring on many different feelings (and) in many different ways. These feelings can fall into a spectrum of “good” or “bad”, depending on the stimulus response.

Hopefully that explains it! Now for the Rode Mic unboxing.

The mic I ordered is called the VideoMic Me-L, which is compatible with any iPhone, iPad, or iPod (as you can see below).

Prior to ordering this mic, I was using another mic that wasn’t the greatest quality, but when it broke, it kind of broke my heart, because it was the only mic I had. I feel like it happened for a reason though, as it encouraged me to do my research this time around. Rode came up with the best reviews, so that’s what why I went with it.

This is what the mic looks like (seen below). It even comes with a jack to plug headphones in if needed, which I like. The mic, itself is the perfect size, not at all bulky, and makes for a great pack-along.

The mic also comes with a covering to put over it. This is primarily used when doing a voiceover or recording audio outdoors, and it’s purpose is to block out the wind or any other background noises. I already tested it out and it completely blocks any noises and makes the audio sound so soft and crisp. I love that Rode includes these with their mics, because I think it’s an essential item. Not to mention, many companies do not include these and will make you purchase it separately.

I also recently did an audio comparison with the mic, titled “Eat cereal with me and my #rodemic”, because, if no one hears you crunching like a cereal craving maniac, then did you really even eat it?

I tried not to be too obnoxious with my crunching though, because that is one ASMR noise I can’t get down with a lot of the time. I think it went well, and you can definitely notice a difference in audio quality without the mic vs. with the mic.

Well, that’s a wrap for this one. I’m curious though, (if you are into ASMR), what is the most satisfying sound to you? Let me know in the comments below or on IG.
