Cinnamon White Chocolate (Mason Jar) Cookie Mix
Sure, commercial holidays are cute and all, but have you ever gifted someone something just because?
This week, I had the pleasure of gifting one of my homemade Mason Jar Cookie mixes to a lovely friend of mine, using some left over ingredients from many Winter baking sessions. After a few requests, I figured I would make an extra one to share the process with you all on here.
The mix shown above is based off of my mom’s classic chocolate chip cookie recipe, with the replacement of white chocolate chips by Camino and the addition of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Note, whenever I use white chocolate in a recipe, I strongly feel I need something to both offset and compliment the sweetness and flavour, hence the added spice(s). It’s kind of like adding vanilla to cookie dough in general, but that’s a conversation for another time.
Okay, now for the recipe . . .
Cinnamon White Chocolate
(Mason Jar) Cookie Mix
Things you will need:
. 1 L Mason Jar
. recipe card
. ribbon (optional)
Dry Ingredients:
. 1 3/4 cups flour
. 3/4 tsp baking soda
. 3/4 tsp salt
. 1/2 tsp cinnamon
. 1/8 tsp nutmeg
. 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
. 3/4 cup brown sugar
. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Liquid Ingredients (not included in the mix):
. 3/4 cup butter (unsalted)
. 1 egg
. 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Add first 5 ingredients into a clean, empty mason jar. Stir until well combined.
Layer remainder of ingredients in the jar in the order listed. Make sure to pack down the brown sugar to create space for the cane sugar. I find it easiest to do this with the bottom of a 1/2 measuring cup.
Place lid on jar and add decorative ribbon (optional).
Write out a recipe card for the liquid ingredients (stated above) and directions (stated below). The cards I used are by Nota, found at Indigo, but any kind of card stock or paper will do.
At this point, you can read the rest of the recipe as if you were the receiver of the cookie mix, starting by whipping the liquid ingredients and adding in the contents of the mason jar. This will help you to write the rest of your recipe card.
Once cookie mix is added, whip everything together with an electric mixer (or by hand) until cookie dough forms, then slightly shape into a ball.
Drop by the heaping tbsp onto large greased cookie sheet. I like to use a silicon spatula to “paint” my butter on. Alternatively, you can use parchment paper.
Bake at 350° for 10 - 12 minutes
Once cookies reach a golden brown colour, remove from oven and let “rest” on cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to cooling rack.
Serve with coffee (or tea) of choice. I paired mine with a homemade decaf Cinnamon Dolce Latte via Starbucks K-cups (gifted from a friend).
For a nice little added touch, I recommend including an extra bag of chocolate chips and/or coffee pods / grounds with your gifted cookie mix. However, this is completely optional.
And there you have it!
Why I love this cookie mix? Well, it’s fun to make, easily customizable, and makes for a great anytime of year gift. Whether it be Christmas Day, Valentines Day, “I’m having a great day and would love some cookies to go with it” or “I’m having a sh*t day and would love some cookies to go”, the opportunities are nearly endless.
