Late Night Thoughts and Love at First Sip, Featuring Justly Made Tea
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’ve never understood people who leave their Christmas trees up until February. The irony of me writing this as I sit here in my Christmas sweater, sipping my justly made tea. At least it’s not out of a Christmas mug though, because, I mean that would just be appalling. Only slightly kidding. Anyway, I can’t say this is the first time I’ve contradicted myself during the holiday season… Valentine’s Day counts as a holiday, right? Look, as long as it’s still Winter time, I’m going to find comfort in whatever I can, as I patiently wait for the warmer seasons to approach. Now if that means Delores down the street is going to keep what’s left of her Christmas tree up until Spring, so be it. For me, that’s too far, so I’ll just continue sitting here in my Christmas sweater, minding my own business (obviously), and sipping my warm tea. But not JUST any tea — JusTea to be exact, and in the form of an Earl Grey latte (or as we, Canadians like to call it London Fog).
For those of you who may not be familiar with JusTea, they are a local, organic tea company, based in Vancouver, founded by two families from two different countries —The Bains (in Canada) and the Kataths (in Kenya). Although, countless miles apart, the two families share an incredible amount of commitment in bringing their shared creative passion to life. And that’s not all they are committed to… Their story is quite remarkable, as they continue to work together to craft delicious, high quality tea, while giving back to the community. In doing this, they partner directly with small scale farmers in Kenya, prioritizing freshness, sustainability, as well fair wages and working conditions. They are also 100% fair trade, as they are devoted to a more holistic approach to consumption and daily life practices. This involves freshly hand picked tea leaves, free of pesticides, herbicides, and soil chemicals, as well as 100% compostable pyramid bags, upcycled from sugar cane husks. Their packaging is also 100% recyclable and free of harmful chemicals. Talk about getting your priorities straight. This company does it all and I couldn’t recommend them more! Now let’s talk about the taste and the tea, itself…
Whether you’re a casual tea drinker or a frequent sipper, and whether you prefer no caffeine, a little caffeine, a lot of caffeine, or A LOT of caffeine, JusTea has a tea for everyone. So far, I’ve only tried 4 of their teas — Chamomile Dream, Purple Rain, Kenyan Earl Grey, and Cream of Earl Grey, and they are all very likely the most flavourful teas I’ve ever consumed. Out of the above teas mentioned, my favourite would have to be a toss up between the Greys. If you know me well, you know I love a bold tea that’s nearly strong enough to compete with coffee. JusTea’s Kenyan Earl Grey is very much that, and their Cream of Earl Grey is an elevated version with the addition of rich vanilla. Both also have bright, hearty notes of citrusy bergamot that really makes for a satisfying cup of Earl Grey. I’m currently sipping their CoEG, topped with frothed oat cream by Earth’s Own, and a touch of organic cane sugar for added sweetness. Needless to say, it was love at first sip.
Well, it’s past midnight now, which means my tea has gone from a late night Earl Grey to a very Early Grey all within the same blog post. I’m not complaining. I suppose I should try to find comfort in getting some sleep now though. With that, I wish you all a Goodnight (or Good morning) or whatever time it, wherever in the world you are.
