“Better Than Hershey’s” Chocolate Syrup
I have no idea where April went, but I found some left-over mini eggs in the fridge today... So to celebrate another month of Spring and a great week of working out, because balance, I figured I would make some (𝑨𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓) 𝑺𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒆𝒔 with my daughters. However, it wouldn’t be complete without some “𝑩𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒚’𝒔” 𝑪𝒉𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑺𝒚𝒓𝒖𝒑.
Not only does this syrup taste better than Hershey’s, it’s much better for your body, as it’s made with (mostly) organic ingredients. Of course that obviously doesn’t mean it’s “healthy” for you, but it is most definitely a much better alternative. Below you will find everything you need to make it.
“Better Than Hershey’s” Chocolate Syrup
Ingredients:
. 3/4 cup (organic) cocoa powder
. 1 cup (organic) cane sugar
. 1 cup cold water
. 1/2 tsp salt
. 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Directions:
In a small sauce pan (before turning element on), sift in cocoa powder and whisk together with sugar until all the “lumps” are out.
Whisk in salt and cold water, then bring to a boil over med-high heat. Once boiling, reduce to med-low and let simmer until consistency thickens (approx 5 mins) while constantly whisking.
Remove from heat, then whisk in vanilla extract.
Drizzle over ice-cream or whisk into a cup of cold or warm milk. I did both and topped my sundae with mini eggs (as previously mentioned), over French Vanilla ice-cream from Island Farms (highly recommend)! This syrup can also be used for drizzling over warm brownies or other desserts.
This syrup may also be used warm, cold, or at room temp. Once it reaches room temp though, make sure to place it in a jar, then seal and refrigerate up to 3 weeks. I up-cycled a mini glass jar for mine and sealed it with some Abeego beeswax wrap.
As for desired consistency, the longer the syrup sits and the colder it gets, the thicker it will be. If you’re looking for a thinner syrup, just reheat the amount you want to use on low heat as needed. The heat will cause it to thin and produce that initial warm drizzle effect.
Hope you all enjoyed this recipe! What would you drizzle this syrup onto? LMK in the comments section or on my IG stories @haveyour.c.a.k.e
Happy Spring!
