Back to (Home) School Finds
It’s been a little over a month since the girls got back into their learning routine, and I figured I would share some of my favourite “back to (home) school” finds from last year, that have carried on to this year…
These items are what we use for on-the go packing and snacking (great for at home use as well). All were purchased with love ♡ at some of my favourite local shops.
Beeswax wraps
by Goldilocks via Organic Acres
Some of you may have previously seen beeswax wraps featured on my socials, and I couldn’t recommend them more! However, it’s important to get a good brand. While I normally reach for Abeego when shopping for beeswax wraps, they were out of stock (not surprising, as they are top quality). Thankfully, I found a wonderful alternative by the brand Goldilocks from Organic Acres Market on Main Street (Vancouver). These are a great substitute to cling wrap, as they are reusable and easy to fold. They also make a great replacement for all the Tupperware lids that magically disappear, along with the granola bars I just bought that have suddenly gone “missing”. If you know, you know. They also do not absorb odours from food and/or dish soap, which is a major plus. Another added bonus is that they are very colourful and pretty looking (as you can see), which my kids (and I) love! I bought these in a 3 pack, which comes with one small (yellow print), one medium (navy raindrop print), and one large (rainbow print).
Lunch tote + sack sacks
by Danica Studio via Welk’s on Main
You probably recognize this tote from the top of this post. I guess it was just so cute, I had to feature it twice. I initially purchased this for myself, so I wouldn’t “forget” to pack snacks to eat alongside my children, instead of sneaking off to the coffee shop… So far, it’s served as a pretty good reminder. Depending on the day, I will often pack lunch and snacks for both my girls and I, where I’ll use this bag as a “catch all”. I obviously had to get some matching orange snack sacks for the girls, which we use in replacement of ziplock bags. These sacks are reusable and [hand] washable, which I love. All are by the brand Danica, found at Welk’s on Main.
Snack Bags
by Danica Studio via Welk’s on Main
To go with the colourful theme, I picked up two of these rainbow snack bags also by Danica, also found at Welk’s. Complete with multiple compartments and zippers, these are perfect for packing multiple snacks and easy for kids to carry and/or throw in their backpacks.
Bento box
by Danica Studio via Welk’s on Main
If you haven’t noticed by now, I love a good matchy matchy moment (or in this case, several matchy moments). I found these matching rainbow bento boxes by the same brand, which fit perfectly into the snack bags shown above. Whether we’re at home or on-the-go, I use these almost daily and pack them full of all the (colourful) fruits and veggies. The one downside of these is that the lid doesn’t snap securely into place, so an elastic band is often needed to keep food from falling out on accident. This luckily isn’t a deal breaker for me, as I think it is still worth it for the quality of material and cute print to match.
Plates + bowls, etc.
by Mushie via West Coast Kids
When my oldest was two, I read a book called The Montessori Toddler, which completely shaped the way I desired to parent. A large part of Montessori style parenting is about teaching independence at an early age by involving children in every day tasks and creating a fun and inviting space to do so. One thing my girls have loved doing from an early age is to be able to get their own plates, bowls, and utensils, as well as snacks. This also involves pouring their own cereal, buttering toast, etc. To make this possible, the girls have their own cupboard with non-breakable, easily accessible kitchen items. Pictured below (and above) is some of what you would expect to see in their cupboard, complete with plates and bowls by Mushie and matching bamboo utensils by Young Lux, both found at West Coast Kids.
Snack containers
by Minika via West Coast Kids
Who else finds themselves constantly picking up spilled snacks off the floor, compliments of their children? That use to be me (okay, it still is), but these “no spill” snack containers make the cleaning less frequent. They are also collapsable, which makes for easy storage at home, as well as packing on-the-go. I found these ones by Minika at West Coast Kids, along with some matching “no spill” silicone bowls. The containers come in a variety of colours and cute little lids with fruits on them. I obviously couldn’t resist getting them.
Well, that’s about it for this round of finds. For anything else, you can find me shopping at the grocery store for all the granola bars that went “missing”, or on IG @haveyour.c.a.k.e
